The default version of PHP that we use on our servers (to run your websites) has been historically set as version PHP 7.4.
As this was declared End-of-Life back in November 2022, meaning that there were no further bug or security fixes released from that point it is now time to update this to the current version, PHP 8.1.
We will change the default version of PHP on our servers from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.1 on 1st August 2023.
That means that unless you have specifically chosen a version of PHP to run your website, it will be updated from version PHP 7.4 to version PHP 8.1 on that date.
What that means for you, is that if you are running outdated versions of 3rd party software such as WordPress, Joomla, Drupal etc or old version of plugins, addons or themes for these software programmes that they may not work under PHP 8.1.
We strongly recommend that you check that any software you are using on your website is able to run under PHP 8.1, or that you select a specific version of PHP to run your website using the instructions here:
How do I change my version of PHP? and Using MultiPHP Manager.
If you have any questions or concerns please refer to your software provider and confirm that their software will function correctly under PHP 8.1.
